PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was approved by the Government of India in February 2024. “A mission to expand solar rooftop capacity and empower households with energy independence, driving them to sustainable future powered by clean and renewable energy.”
PMO India said regarding PM SGMBY “promoting solar rooftop installations for households, providing both financial subsidies and low-interest loans to make solar energy adoption more accessible.”
Under PM SGMBY scheme, beneficiaries will get the following subsidy amounts for different capacities installed on consumer house rooftop.
Plant Capacity Applicable Subsidy
1 kW INR 30,000/-
2 kW INR 60,000/-
3 kW and Above INR 78,000/- fixed
Who are all eligible for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana ?
The criteria to be eligible for PM SGMBY Scheme:
Indian Citizenship: The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
Property Ownership: The applicant must own the house or property where the solar rooftop system will be installed, and the property must have a suitable roof for installation.
Electricity Connection: The property must have a valid electricity connection.
First-Time Beneficiary: Applicants who have previously availed of subsidies under similar schemes are not eligible
Documents required to be submitted for PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Here is the list of documents required for availing of solar rooftop yojana:
Address proof – Aadhaar card, Voter ID, or passport
Identity proof- Aadhaar card, Voter ID, passport or driving license
A recent electricity bill in the applicant’s name
Proof of ownership of the house where rooftop solar panels are to be installed
To apply for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, follow these steps:
The process to apply for Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana:
– Visit the official Portal www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in and register using your mobile number under “Apply for rooftop solar”
– Choose your state, district, electricity distribution company, customer account number, customer e-mail Id & contact
– When the Distribution Company (DISCOM) approves the application you can choose a vendor to install the rooftop solar
– After installation, apply for Net Metering with DISCOM, after inspection net metering will be activated and commissioning certificate will be provided
– After commissioning, you can present your bank details and a cancelled cheque, the government subsidy will be credited to your account.
